RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay Turns 30 - Here’s Why Everyone Should Visit this Island at Least Once…

‘RelaxAway’, Half Moon Cay, has been a destination for cruise ships for 30 seasons now, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited this little taste of paradise three times, with another trip already planned. In this post, I’m going to tell you a little about what makes this island special, and why I think that every cruiser should plan to visit at least once!

It’s worth highlighting that this video was filmed prior to the upgrades that I’m telling you about today being completed, but it’ll give you a good feel for the island nonetheless!
Cruise line-owned private islands offer you something different to the rest of the Caribbean. They offer you the picture-perfect sandy beaches, but without the stress and hassle of visiting a more populated town or city environment. They offer you the opportunity to really relax, and I’d say that’s especially the case with an island like Half Moon Cay.
You won’t find any of the waterpark-style attractions here that some competitors offer, which in turn creates a far more serene and relaxing environment than what you’re going to find on some of the other islands available in the same area from other lines.
As part of their 30th season celebration, Holland America Line has unveiled a huge upgrade to the island. This upgrade bring brand new facilities, including a new food pavilion, an exclusive beach club and the installation of brand new pickleball courts. The latter of these additions allows you to not only play the game onboard the ships, but also now ashore!

The news of these upgrades is like music to my ears. During my most recent visit to the island in March 2026, it was evident that there was a significant amount of work being completed. From the beach, I was able to see first-hand how much work was being undertaken here - it was amazing to see. During that visit, I’ll be honest - it was a real inconvenience seeing so much construction activity, but I’m incredibly hopeful after seeing the initial images of the island that it will be well worth it.
It’s that hope that’s persuaded me to book another cruise that will visit RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay, so ‘watch this space’ for my full review following visit number four!

I’m particularly excited to learn more about the new Beach Club. At the point of writing this article, very limited images have been released by Holland America Line to show what this is going to look like. In a press release issued in September 2026, they confirmed: “The new Beach Club pairs Holland America Line’s signature palette of blue, orange and cream with natural textures and relaxed, open-air spaces, for a setting that feels distinctly Caribbean.”.
