Cagney’s Steakhouse on NCL: Here’s Everything You Need to Know - My Review

Cagney’s Steakhouse is one of the best known speciality dining venues onboard the ships from Norwegian Cruise Line. It receives so many glowing reports in reviews online, and so I was intrigued and eager to eat here on my first cruise.

I’ve now eaten here a few times, so I thought it would be interesting to use my most recent cruise onboard Norwegian Luna to properly review the experience. What I can say at this point is that my experience on Luna was very consistent with the experiences that I’ve had dining here on other ships, which is a real positive.

Before we get started, I should stress that this review should offer you an insight to this venue on any Norwegian Cruise Line ship, even although I experienced it on Norwegian Luna. The menu and the experience should be very similar across the fleet, so don’t worry about your ship offering something completely different! At the point of publishing this post, Cagney’s is available onboard the following ships:

  • Norwegian Bliss

  • Norwegian Breakaway

  • Norwegian Dawn

  • Norwegian Epic

  • Norwegian Encore

  • Norwegian Escape

  • Norwegian Gem

  • Norwegian Getaway

  • Norwegian Jade

  • Norwegian Jewel

  • Norwegian Joy

  • Norwegian Luna

  • Norwegian Pearl

  • Norwegian Prima

  • Norwegian Sky

  • Norwegian Spirit

  • Norwegian Sun

  • Norwegian Star

  • Norwegian Viva

  • Norwegian Aqua

  • Pride of America

As you can see with the list above, it’s of no surprise that this venue is so heavily reviewed - it’s available on so many ships!

I experienced Cagney’s Steakhouse while cruising onboard Norwegian Luna, but this review should help you no matter which ship you’re planning to cruise on!

First, where is Cagney’s located?

This one will depend massively on which of the NCL ships you’re travelling on. For example, on Norwegian Breakaway, Cagey’s occupies the entire back section of the ship on Deck 8. On Norwegian Luna, it’s towards the back of the ship on Deck 7. To check exactly where Cagney’s is on the ship that you’re planning to cruise on, just head to the Norwegian Cruise Line website to find the most accurate deck plan of your ship!

What’s the venue like inside?

On some of my previous Norwegian Cruise Line cruises, I’ve felt that Cagney’s has a really dark and intimate feel. This has completely changed on Norwegian Luna, with this venue being much more reminiscent of a modern steakhouse somewhere like New York City.

You’re constantly reminded that you’re ‘at sea’ thanks to the huge porthole windows that run down one side of the restaurant, which is a feature that I absolutely love. I’m always really frustrated when I cruise on a ship that doesn’t allow me to see the ocean - that’s one of the reasons why I cruise, after all!

Design-wise, the team here have opted for an industrial feeling concrete-style approach - something that I don’t actually think I’ve seen done on a cruise ship before. You might suspect this would make the venue feel quite cold and uncomfortable, but it’s been very well dressed with both carpeting and soft furnishings, which really compliment the harsh design very well.

I really liked the fact that they’ve chosen the bold colour of lime green as their ‘colour pop’ in here - most of the other venues around Luna have far more discreet pastel hints, but not in here!

A huge ‘top tip’ that I would offer you if you’re planning to dine here as a couple is that there are a number of more intimate and private tables dotted around the outside of the restaurant. As you can see in the images above, it’s a cover-heavy venue, with lots of chairs found within the central section. However, if you cast your eyes off to the side and also the far end of the images, you see some much more private tables for two, and also some booth-style seating.

If you’d like to enjoy a more private meal, or if you’re perhaps coming to Cagney’s to celebrate ‘date night’ onboard, then you’ll want to request one of these tables with the hosts by the door. It can be almost impossible to request this on the day of your reservation, so I’d recommend going a few days ahead of schedule to ask!

What’s on the menu, and what’s the food like?

If you’re thinking about dining at Cagney’s on one of your upcoming cruises, then this is probably among the most important aspects of this review.

It’s a really great steakhouse menu in here - you’re going to find almost everything you’d expect from the equivalent menu ‘on land’. There’s both meat and seafood, so hopefully you’re going to be spoiled for choice, rather than struggling to find something you’d like to order.

As expected from NCL, you can add a Lobster Tail to any main course from this menu for a supplement of $25. This is fairly common practice across the speciality restaurants on these ships, so certainly not an exclusive offering from Cagney’s.

Do you know what you’d order? Let’s see if it matches what I opted for - I’ll show you my food next. I dined here with my friend (Laura), so I’m able to show you double the amount of courses here, which is great news from a review point of view!

Let’s get started…

I really, really enjoyed our meal here. The food did feel to be very high quality, although one warning that I would offer you is that I actually ate a much better steak at Palomar, which is another of the speciality options onboard Norwegian Luna.

I’ve also published a review of that restaurant - you can click here to check that out now!

Let’s now move to look at the dessert options available here, and also what we opted to order.

I’m going to have to summarise this part of our meal fairly quickly, as I can feel my tastebuds going just looking at the food on my screen.

Laura opted for the Creme Brûlée, and she gave it a massive thumbs up, but in my opinion the true winner here is the cheesecake. I’ve eaten this multiple times on various NCL ships, and it’s consistently my favourite thing to eat during the cruise - I haven’t found another food item that I like more. It’s truly delicious!

How much does it cost to dine at Cagney’s Steakhouse?

Cagney’s is among the most established speciality restaurants that you’ll find across the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, and it comes with a cover charge of $60 per person. If you opt to book your meal onboard outside of a dining package, then you’ll also be charged a ‘gratuity and speciality service charge’, which was 20% at the point of my cruise in April 2026. This would take the onboard price of Cagney’s up to $72 per person.

Would I recommend Cagney’s Steakhouse to you for your future cruises?

Absolutely. NCL have done such a good job of refining this venue over the years, and it’s a real favourite across their fleet. It’s great to see the experience remains so consistently good on Norwegian Luna, which shows that the overall concept really hasn’t changed, despite the fact that the physical space has on this newer ship class.

In my experience, you’ll struggle to get booked in for a meal at Cagney’s if you don’t secure your reservation on day one of the cruise at the very latest - it’s just so incredibly popular!

When it comes to ‘value for money’, I do think that NCL are delivering here. If you’ve purchased a dining package, then it’s a no-brainer, but even at the full price of a $60pp cover charge, I’d say you’re doing well with the quality of food that you’re receiving. To eat the equivalent at a restaurant on land would cost you considerably more, and so Cagney’s gets my seal of approval!

I really hope you’ve enjoyed my review of my experience at Cagney’s Steakhouse. If you’d like to see more from our experience onboard Norwegian Luna, check out the below video on YouTube. In this video, my friend Laura and I take you onboard with us, and show you exactly what you can get up to if you decide to cruise on Luna.
